My work has always been driven by the beauty and symmetry I’ve found in nature. Having spent much of my life outdoors, I have developed a deep appreciation for the many ways the natural world presents itself. But the historian in me is also drawn to the debris of human civilization, the stuff of farm dumps and flea markets.
As an untrained artist, each new project becomes a learning experience. The mechanics or process of assembling the components of my boxes, from an engineering perspective, is as interesting to me as the design itself. The work is always evolving as I add new media and try different techniques, but almost always, with the aim of presenting the beauty of nature against a backdrop of man-made fragments from the past, with a splash of humor.
